Sound can be an integral part of any visual medium. High-quality audio can elevate a project to new heights, while low-quality audio can detract from it. My go-to site for high-quality audio is SoundsCrate.com, with 5000+ sound effects and music tracks, and new content added monthly. But accessing and importing audio can be time-consuming. However, adding sound to a project can be time-consuming process. This is due to juggling multiple apps and windows.

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the SoundsCrate Extension for Adobe Premiere Pro, a sound design plugin that we’ve been working on for over a year. This extension gives you access to the entire SoundsCrate library directly within Premiere. It includes special tools to make sound design easier. Best of all, it’s free for ALL ProductionCrate users.

Installing

This plugin is built for both Windows AND Mac users. We’ve made it so that installing this extension takes minimal time & effort.

If you download the .exe file for Windows you will be prompted to accept changes to your computer. After you hit accept you will be directed to the Select Menu Folder, we recommend (Default) for optimal performance. Click install and hit finish after confirmation.

If you download the .dmg file for Mac, an install .pkg window will open. Double-click the .pkg to begin installing the extension. When selecting a Folder to install the plugin onto, we recommend saving it to your Mac’s internal hard drive (often labeled Macintosh HD). Follow the subsequent prompts (including logging in with your Apple ID and password) until you receive confirmation that the extension has been installed.

If Premiere was open while installing the extension, close it and restart the app. You should now be able to open the SoundsCrate Plugin in Premiere Pro from the Extensions tab located in the Window menu.

If you wish to uninstall the extension on Windows, you can find the uninstaller in your Main Hard Drive. On Mac computers you will have to manually remove the extension from your Macintosh hard drive through the following File Path: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions

Pro & Free Access

Sign in with your ProductionCrate account and browse the SoundsCrate library within Premiere through a dockable window. Pro users can access all of the tracks, while free users can only preview the Pro assets. The amount of available downloads depends on the user’s membership. An open SoundsCrate window must be logged-in for the extension to work.

Direct Import

In the Library tab, select from various categories in the SoundsCrate library. Use the keyword search bar and filters to find specific tracks.

Preview tracks by clicking the left icon and control playback using the bottom controls (1). The middle icon adds the track to the Downloaded library and directly into your timeline (2). Use the right icon to add to the Downloaded folder for later (3). Importing an clip with the Play Peak box selected will place the track at the earliest waveform peak (4). This makes it ideal for timing sound effects and music stingers.

Batch Import & Favorites

You have multiple ways to sort your saved sounds (alphabetical, recently downloaded). Import sounds to your timeline with the add icon. The Batch Import button allows you add multiple selected clips into your timeline at the same time (A). This provides a more flexible option for adding multiple clips. Use the star icon to mark as a favorite, making your frequently used sounds easy top find (B).

I’ve been using this plugin for over 100 projects so far. The ability to search, download, and import sound effects and music all within one window has greatly increased my efficiency. The batch importing, favoriting, and Play Peak options have made it an indispensable tool for any sound artist. If you have any questions about the plugin, please email support@productioncrate.com, and we’ll be happy to help you get the most out of the SoundsCrate Extension.

Download Free After Effects Glow Script – Crate’s Glow

Download the Free After Effects Glow Script here

Believe it or not, there’s a lot that goes into a good glow effect! I’m overly passionate about this particular topic, and would happily spend hours fine-tuning each little pixel of my glow to make sure it makes my VFX absolutely perfect – and ProductionCrate wants to help you do the same.

Except it won’t take you hours… Instead, just a few seconds!

We have built out a powerful glow extension for After Effects, capable of producing the most stunning optical effects for your compositing projects with a single click. We’ve tested this tool to its limits, and are insanely proud of what this can do for VFX artists like you. Additionally, we’ve made this free to download for everyone!

Download Free After Effects Glow Script - Crate's Glow

So why did we make something that After Effects can already do? Those who have already used After Effects built-in glow effect already know the answer – it’s pretty ugly.

That leads us to our next question; what makes Crate’s Glow any better? Our script has been carefully designed to follow the natural physical properties of light, allowing the final result to imitate the realistic gradient-based falloff that we see in the real world. This eliminates the artificial look that After Effect’s built-in glow generates and instead gives us an incredibly aesthetic result.

Download Free After Effects Glow Script - Crate's Glow

Each parameter has been fine-tuned to create the best result with one click. You can easily make further adjustments with user-friendly parameters. These can be changed even after the glow has been created by using the sliders in the “Glow Controls” null layer.

Threshold                              – Minimum brightness for an area of the image to begin to glow

Intensity                                 – Brightness of the glow

Spread                                   – How far out the glow reaches

Flicker Intensity                    – Increase this to have the intensity shift over time

Flickers Per Second             – How often the flicker fluctuates in a second

Tint Strength                         –  When increased, the glow will match the chosen color more

Tint Colour                            – The color used for the tint

Vibrance                                – If you’re losing color in your glow, you can use this to boost the saturation

Usually, the glow effect will work without any extra squabble, but I’ll quickly go through how you can take full advantage of the features available.

Here’s an example of an explosion VFX shot that needs an exciting glow effect to give the fire some further intensity.

Since we’re organised (most of the time), we have the robot-explosion VFX layer separated from the background. Using keying tools, we can isolate the orange flames in a new layer.

Download Free After Effects Glow Script - Crate's Glow

Selecting this layer, and clicking “Generate” on our glow script will have the glow effect only applied to these flames, adding an extraordinarily epic glow to our fire VFX.

And it’s as simple as that!

To download and install the script, open up After Effects and navigate through File -> Scripts -> Run Script File. Find a folder you wish to keep the script stored, and extract “Crate’s Glow.jsx” to the new location. Double click the .jsx file and the script window will open.

How to add realistic camera shake in After Effects – Crate’s Camera Shake

Download Crate’s Camera Shake script here (Available for Pro Members)

There’s something unnatural about the well-known wiggle expression. It’s fair to say that this sort of shake is too perfect.

If you watch over a hand-held video recording, you’ll be quick to notice the immense differences between handheld footage and the go-to wiggle expression.

Add Realistic Camera Shake to your Video

While the wiggle expression does create a shake, it’s mathematical, where it smoothly interpolates randomly generated keyframes between intervals of time. In the real world, camera shake has a huge range of factors that can influence it: footsteps, wind, and weight of the camera are just a few!

This is why we have created our After Effects script, Crate’s Camera Shake!

The toolkit can create a fully-realistic camera shake with only the click of a button.

It’s fast, fully customisable, and is packed with features. So how does it work?

We’ve tracked and analyzed several different pieces of footage, all recorded in different scenarios. Earthquakes, running, handheld and more are all part of the bundle to choose from. Once you browse the built-in library of shake presets, you can then apply it directly to your footage. It’s that simple!

If you’re seeking more control, we’ve also included a variety of customisable options to perfect your shake.

Add Realistic Camera Shake to your Video

Amplitude – The strength of the shake.

Frequency – The speed of the shake.

Skip Keys – Reduce the density of keyframes (a value of 2 will place a keyframe every 3 frames instead of 1).

Random Seed – Add more unique randomness to your shake.

Motion Blur – Have the script automatically set up motion blur to the shake.

Auto Scale – The script will calculate the perfect size for your footage so that the shake does not have it drift out of frame.

We’ve also implemented a Jolt for you to choreograph your perfect set of shakes. The Jolt will be applied wherever your timeline scrubber is on your timeline. You can generate a null with the shake or apply directly to your layer.

These can be applied directly into the shake animation wherever you need, and give an impact to your footage. Jolts are perfect for explosions, impactful footsteps, or something rushing past the camera.

Add Realistic Camera Shake to your Video

Crate’s Camera Shake After Effects Script is exclusive for our Pro Users. The Pro Content continues to grow rapidly, sign up today!

We’ll be using this script in nearly every video we create and know you’ll find it as useful as we do.
