Sound can be an integral part of any visual medium. High-quality audio can elevate a project to new heights, while low-quality audio can detract from it. My go-to site for high-quality audio is SoundsCrate.com, with 5000+ sound effects and music tracks, and new content added monthly. But accessing and importing audio can be time-consuming. However, adding sound to a project can be time-consuming process. This is due to juggling multiple apps and windows.

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the SoundsCrate Extension for Adobe Premiere Pro, a sound design plugin that we’ve been working on for over a year. This extension gives you access to the entire SoundsCrate library directly within Premiere. It includes special tools to make sound design easier. Best of all, it’s free for ALL ProductionCrate users.

Installing

This plugin is built for both Windows AND Mac users. We’ve made it so that installing this extension takes minimal time & effort.

If you download the .exe file for Windows you will be prompted to accept changes to your computer. After you hit accept you will be directed to the Select Menu Folder, we recommend (Default) for optimal performance. Click install and hit finish after confirmation.

If you download the .dmg file for Mac, an install .pkg window will open. Double-click the .pkg to begin installing the extension. When selecting a Folder to install the plugin onto, we recommend saving it to your Mac’s internal hard drive (often labeled Macintosh HD). Follow the subsequent prompts (including logging in with your Apple ID and password) until you receive confirmation that the extension has been installed.

If Premiere was open while installing the extension, close it and restart the app. You should now be able to open the SoundsCrate Plugin in Premiere Pro from the Extensions tab located in the Window menu.

If you wish to uninstall the extension on Windows, you can find the uninstaller in your Main Hard Drive. On Mac computers you will have to manually remove the extension from your Macintosh hard drive through the following File Path: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions

Pro & Free Access

Sign in with your ProductionCrate account and browse the SoundsCrate library within Premiere through a dockable window. Pro users can access all of the tracks, while free users can only preview the Pro assets. The amount of available downloads depends on the user’s membership. An open SoundsCrate window must be logged-in for the extension to work.

Direct Import

In the Library tab, select from various categories in the SoundsCrate library. Use the keyword search bar and filters to find specific tracks.

Preview tracks by clicking the left icon and control playback using the bottom controls (1). The middle icon adds the track to the Downloaded library and directly into your timeline (2). Use the right icon to add to the Downloaded folder for later (3). Importing an clip with the Play Peak box selected will place the track at the earliest waveform peak (4). This makes it ideal for timing sound effects and music stingers.

Batch Import & Favorites

You have multiple ways to sort your saved sounds (alphabetical, recently downloaded). Import sounds to your timeline with the add icon. The Batch Import button allows you add multiple selected clips into your timeline at the same time (A). This provides a more flexible option for adding multiple clips. Use the star icon to mark as a favorite, making your frequently used sounds easy top find (B).

I’ve been using this plugin for over 100 projects so far. The ability to search, download, and import sound effects and music all within one window has greatly increased my efficiency. The batch importing, favoriting, and Play Peak options have made it an indispensable tool for any sound artist. If you have any questions about the plugin, please email support@productioncrate.com, and we’ll be happy to help you get the most out of the SoundsCrate Extension.

Download 4K Wall Cracking VFX

Surface cracking effects can add authenticity to your scenes. They can make earthquake VFX feel more realistic. Add them to scenes with explosions and apocalyptic bunkers.  We added 19 new 4K cracking visual effects to FootageCrate.

These include flat surface cracks and wall cracking effects. The flat surfaces are great for applying onto 2D and 3D surfaces as animated textures. The wall cracks include debris particulate for extra realism. These effects pair nicely with the 4K ground crack effects on FootageCrate.

Download Royalty-Free Western Music

The Western is as old as film itself. Music has evoked the American frontier since the silent era. From the innovative The Great Train Robbery (1903), to the Oscar-winning The Power of the Dog (2021). Today, SoundsCrate joins this 100-year legacy. We’ve added 15 New Western music tracks for you to download.

This album was created by professional composers Gerardo Garcia & Isabelle Engman. They drew from a century of western stories for inspiration. These royalty-free tracks bring together the characteristics of classic western scores, but with a modern intensity and grit.

This new collection is available to download for ProductionCrate Pro users. Make your own wild-west shootout with these Muzzle Flash VFX and Bullet Impact VFX.

Download Realistic 4K Earthquake VFX

We have added over 30 new ground-shattering and earthquake VFX to download from FootageCrate. These 4K visual effects come in a variety of angles, shapes, and speeds.

Cracking surface effects are versatile for VFX and 3D Artists. Composite them into After Effects to enhance impacts within the scene, or use as animated textures in your favorite 3D software.

Sign up for a Pro account to download these video effects. Pair these VFX with authentic Earthquake sound effects from SoundsCrate. Check out the tutorial below, where we go over how to add these VFX in After Effects.

Crate’s Heat Radiation After Effects Plugin – Free Download

Download the free Heat Radiation plugin for After Effects here.

ProductionCrate is releasing a free plugin for Adobe After EffectsHeat Radiation.

We’ve lost count of the number of times that we have added any fire-based effect to our VFX. Maintaining realistic colours is always a challenge for artists, as different fire VFX assets often have different styles that are inconsistent with each other. This is where our After Effects plugin comes in!

This tool is a powerful colouring plugin to help you composite your fire, explosions, lava, stars and anything else that glows hot.

It creates consistent colours which accurately follow the rules of black-body radiation, which defines the properties of light emitted from hot objects.

The results created from plus plugin can then overlay the background footage using a screen or add blending mode.

Here’s how it works:

  • Create the input layer. The brightness of the pixels will represent the temperature you believe it should be (for example, a fire input will be brighter than its surroundings).
  • In most cases, using a solid-composite effect to avoid the background emitting any light will create desirable results.
  • Apply Crate’s Heat Radiation effect! The default values should instantly provide stylish results.
  • From here you can further adjust the parameters until you’re happy.

We wanted to design this plugin accurately represent the real world, and so the temperature-based parameters are in Kelvin. This means that you can input measured values and be given colours that you will expect to see.

We’ve extended the limits far enough to reach the surprising phase where the light emitted from a hot object turns blue. This can be useful for plasma, stars, jet-exhausts and more.

Here’s a breakdown of the most useful parameters you will come across in this After Effects plugin:

Max Temperature

This controls the temperature that a white pixel in your input will represent. The minimum temperature will also perform the same, but for the black pixels. You should aim to use temperatures that you expect the scene to have in the real world.

Temperature Offset

This shifts the entire minimum and maximum temperature output by a specified value. It can be useful if you want to increase the overall temperature of a scene.

Gamma

Creates additional contrast and intensity in the result.

Yellow Influence

We recognise that not all black-body emitting objects are perfect, and have included this to allow you to adjust the intensity of the yellow in the output. This is especially useful in flames and explosions.

Black Falloff

The value of the black falloff will define the temperature of a pixel that is at 100% brightness. Anything between this and the Black Point will be linearly interpolated towards 0% brightness.

A useful tip for using this plugin is to apply a curves adjustment before the Heat Radiation effect. This will allow you to precisely control the intensity and contrast of the inputs for quick manipulation of the final output.

Windows Installation

To install the plugin, simply navigate to your Adobe After Effects folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC 2019\Support Files\Plug-ins) and insert “HeatRadiation.aex”.

Mac Installation

To install the plugin to a Mac device, locate your Adobe After Effects folder (/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore/ProductionCrate) and insert “HeatRadiation.bundle”.

Creating Bullet Impact VFX Assets (Download)

You can download these HD bullet impact effect here

It’s been a while since we last added bullet impact effects to our FootageCrate VFX library, but this update has been worth the wait!

12 incredible new impact assets are a part of our latest collection, with 3 being completely free to download now. You can find the rest of our dust and debris elements here.

Download HD Dust Bullet Impact VFX Assets

These action-packed VFX elements range from 1080p to 4K, meeting the professional standards that you need to make your compositing project stand out. Each is at a consistent 30 fps, and have been pre-keyed to maintain perfect transparency, making it easy to edit them into your shot. Alternatively, you may choose the greenscreen versions which can be downloaded by selecting the MP4 file from the dropdown list.

If you haven’t subscribed to our Youtube channel, we would like to introduce you to our show VFXperiments, where we breakdown the magic behind creating these incredible effects for our community. Our latest episode covers these exciting bullet impact effects!

So now that you’ve caught up with how awesome these effects are, let’s take a look at how we can use them.

The first step is to pick which asset best fits your shot. Is the bullet impacting the floor? Perhaps a wall? Whatever the case, the available variations will meet your needs.

Grab your footage, (in this case I’m using a photo from Pexels.com) and use a compositing software such as Adobe After Effects or Hitfilm and add the bullet impact into your project. If your footage is moving, you can use one of the built-in camera trackers immerse the effect into your video.

Download HD Dust Bullet Impact VFX Assets

Luckily for us, adding these bullet impacts to your video is surprisingly easy thanks to its built-in alpha channel! All we need to do is color correct the layer to match the footage. This can be achieved by applying a tint effect and selecting the colors of the impacted surface as the color to blend into. Making it slightly brighter will then give it the atmospheric-glow that we see in the real world.

Adding some shading can also work wonders! Take a look at the bottom left dust burst for example, where half of the smoke has been covered in shadow. You can recreate this by duplicating the dust burst and having the lower layer darker than the one above. The top layer can then be masked so that only the area in sunlight is visible. This is one of the most effective ways to make your bullet-impact look lifelike!

You can use the tint effect for other scenarios too, with the video covering how to use these impact assets to create an alien sci-fi weapon effect. Additionally, you can tint the footage red to create an instant blood burst!
